What kinds of products do we carry?
Good question, and a complicated one. The short answer is a little dab of everything. Although our main business now is art supplies, we began in the 40's as a supply store for John Askew's crews of painters and paper hangers. And though we no longer sell house paint or wallpaper, we do still stock large paint brushes, masking tape, rollers and roller covers, and other sundry items that you might not expect to find at an art supply store.
What about crafts and hobby supplies?
Yes, we stock many hobby and craft items, including (but certainly not limited to) balsa and basswood for models, styrene, die-cast scale figures, some modeling paints, enamel sign paints, a modest selection of miniature blades and cutting tools, and machinist squares. Many of these items, though not traditionally gathered under the umbrella term of art supplies, have dovetailed nicely with local artists' multimedia interests and architectural design students' need for raw building materials.
So, what's with the collectible model airplanes and comic books?
These product lines are evolving with the interests of Askew Taylor employees. Being a small business has its advantages when it comes to adding new product lines and adapting to new markets. The model airplanes are mostly listed on our eBay page, but some can also be found in our catalog. The manga in our web catalog is sort of a hobby for Kirk's daughter, and we are beginning to see some comic book inkers find their way into our store. Since comic and manga papers, inks, and pattern screens are become more popular, we are gradually building our stock of these products. Please note, though, that most of the comics are currently not stocked in the store, but they can be purchased with an in-store pickup option or brought in by request.
Is the online catalog stuff all we stock?
Not even close. Over the years, we have accumulated so many product lines that putting them online is a rather large (and ongoing) project. We are working as fast as we can to upload new products monthly, but it will likely take us years to add all of our product lines. We are open to customer requests, and we do take phone orders. So, if you don't see quite what you are looking for but still want to order from us, please feel free to call in your request.
